Oh God…

So here we are living in the 21st century. So much has changed in the course of man’s dominion on this world. And yet it seems sometimes many things remain the same.
Our spiritual beliefs for example. It seems we are all so eager to believe in something greater than ourselves. Something that is above all else. Something that loves us no matter what. Well, almost no matter what.
We want to believe that something amazing is responsible for all that we see and all that we are. And of course in order to gain access to this great being, we must go through other men and women.
See thats where this whole religion thing seems to fall apart. The moment mankind gets involved. Suddenly some dude in a robe or a suit is the gate keeper for ones own eternal soul. I call bullshit…
Too many people in religion take advantage of their position to live ‘enhanced’ lifestyles. And when you confront them, they smile and say ‘god has been very good to me brother’. It wasn’t god that was good to you. It was you being good to yourself taking advantage of the average weak minded religious nitwit. Thats not to say anyone who follows religion is a nitwit. However, anyone giving a snake oil salesman money for eternal life is.
You see, no matter how any one religion spins it, they are not the only answer. They are not the only choice. They don’t all believe in the same god. No matter what spiritual path you choose, there will ALWAYS be more people that disagree with you than agree. There are always more people that believe in other things.
This is where faith comes in I think. Takes an act of faith to take a stand and say the rest of the world is nuts.
So lets cover the basics shall we?
Why are we here? Hell, I don’t know. We are here to live life however we choose to. We can devote it to loving God, loving a woman, a child, a car. Just love something. Does that mean I think the meaning of life is love? No, I think life is maybe a little more complicated than that. But not much. Love is great, but its never enough.
How did we get here? Well, we can go over the book of Genesis and talk about God creating man in a nice garden. But after awhile we will have to ask ourselves, Who in the hell did Cane when he left the garden? We are all here because people before us get a lil warm in the britches and decided hey lets get it on.
That doesn’t go back far enough for you? You mean you want to know exactly we got here on this Earth? Oh well, sorry I don’t know. And I’m okay with that. See I wasn’t there, and neither was anyone else. God? Sure maybe he was there, but after reading his blog on the matter, I’m still pretty much in the dark.
Evolution? Sure why not. So many religious people have so much disdain for animal life they feel insulted that we could ever possibly be descended from beasts. I mean, sure we are completely depend on them for food and what not. But hey thats just part of God’s plan right?
The common argument has been raised that some people want to believe we were spawned suddenly from mud and rib bones. Yet they find its silly to imagine we evolved from other critters. Yeah well, I think I’m siding with the critters.
Still not far back enough for you? Okay lets just pop into the old Big Bang Theory. Now what I find odd is that I hear religious fella’s trashing this theory. That’s fine by me, however its how they trash it that makes it so interesting. They claim some godless scientist came up with that crap. And yet, it was a Monk that came up with it. Boom and then there was light. Duh!!
